Xtorrent 1.1 – released today

I’m pleased to announce today that after weeks of testing, Xtorrent 1.1 is now available for download. This is a fantastic release that brings many significant features, including:
  • individual file selection, so you can pick only the files you need
  • file priorities
  • a refashioned downloads pane

For the speed-obsessed, Xtorrent 1.1 brings:
  • significantly faster searching
  • faster downloads

All in all, this is the most feature-packed, stable, fastest, and easy to use release of Xtorrent ever. I hope you enjoy it. I know I certainly enjoyed designing it. Thanks!

Attention bloggers: If you write a story about this Xtorrent 1.1 release, you will be invited to join the NewsFire 2 private beta later this year. This will be your chance to try out NewsFire 2 ahead of everyone else.

Tobsen...

Is there any chance to get better support for bt.etree.org, so that Xtorrent displays all the time the description?

Greg...

Best Software Ever.

Ranger...

I don’t currently have a blog that anyone reads, but I’d gladly write a note on Facebook…would that work?

Matt...

Very cool, I absolutely love the individual file selection feature.

PHormality...

Fine work btw, she’s running pretty darned sweet.

Blogged: blog
Keep up the quality software!

Kevin...

Great release! Even better is the fact you’re mentioning NewsFire 2. I’m eager to see what that looks like.

Dylan...

Great update, shame it no longer works on OiNK.

Giusva...

Hi David, in my blog you’ll find the article (in italian)!
(Remember to invite me :D if you want)

“Ciao” (=Bye)!

Chema...

Great release… thanks
I hope to be able to test the new NewsFire soon. :-)

mastrouz...

What a release. The individual files download is awesome…
And how fast.
Just one thing, I saw it by chance that it wasn’t a beta anymore, since the check update option in Xtorrent 1.0 told me I had the latest version, it didn’t advise me Xtorrent 1.1 was available for download.
This is one of the few softs I’m glad I bought it !

Great job Dave, as always.

Brandon...

I wrote about Xtorrent 1.1 over at my . Can’t wait to see NewsFire 2!

Andrew...

Looking great so far, I have posted a blog post on my site about the release.

Macommand

Keep up the great work.

Brandon...

Curses. I messed up my comment. Here is what it was supposed to be:

I wrote about Xtorrent 1.1 over at my blog. Can’t wait to see NewsFire 2!

William...

Hey, great Xtorrent update. I blogged about it . I excitedly await Newsfire 2.

William...

Oopsies. Screwed that up. http://www.deskpopp.com/post/88

Axelvak...

You mean writing about Xtorrent on our blog?

I was wondering about NewsFire if there would be any chance of the soft being localized in different languages?

Alex...

Please please add encryption next. I know you mentioned its coming but it should be a high priority. most of us can’t buy and use this cause most ISP’s do traffic shaping now.

Thanks

Encryption is not the panacea you might think. Modern packet shapers can easily recognize encrypted BitTorrent traffic, and some ISPs simply throttle all encrypted traffic. Bram writes:

…there’s hardly any benefit. Most ISPs don’t do such shaping, and attempts at obfuscation won’t work for long – the ISP traffic shaping tools are already quite sophisticated, and a wire protocol which transfers a lot of data bidirectionally and consistently looks like line noise with no header is only marginally more difficult to identify then one which uses fixed ports. Obfuscating the protocol doesn’t even claim to make it difficult to find out who’s downloading a particular file.

That’s not to say I don’t want to support encryption, but I tend to think that in the long run, it’s wiser to simply vote with your wallet and switch your service to an ISP that is willing to let you use the bandwidth that you have paid for. Throttling and shaping, especially when done underhandedly and secretly, should not be acceptable to the market.

Scott...

A very nice Xtorrent update that you have released.

Definitely piqued my curiosity with NewsFire 2. Hopefully NF2 will be able to import OPML feeds that export the subscription items in their respective folders without having to tweak the file. Currently, it is impossible to export subscriptions from, say, Google Reader and immediately import the resulting OPML file in to NewsFire without first “fixing” the file.

Brett...

Great new release! :) I gave you a shout out over at Randomness Redefined. :)

John...

David,

Looks like a stunning release. I’ve always loved your software.

I posted something about this release here:

I’m excited to see NewsFire 2. Will it be shiny? I love shiny things!

uTomi...

Hi Dave.

My experice is the following : This update are great but there are some problems with the complet flag. Xtorrent is not send to tracker complete flag. This is a huge problem. The previous version 1.0 v45 works like a charm , but this. I don’t know. Anyone else?

Sashel...

Seems to be a nice release – but on “Check for updates” it gives me the message: 1.0 (v45) is currently the newest version.

?

Michel...

Nice Work !

Be our lord Cash to be with you ! :- )

Me too I’m taking some part of your advertising !

mymac...

We have posted a story about xtorrent on MyMac.cc
Remember us when you’d send the invitations.

Nice program.

Ciao

Aripaco...

Great new release. I wrote about in my blog (in spanish). Exciting about NewsFire 2.

Tim...

Great software and the tweaks are well done. Nice job here. Any way to get a help file or online manual in the future?

MarkMS...

I have to agree with David on encryption, but then on the other hand some of us in rural areas and don’t have much of a choice in terms of an ISP. Here I only have AT&T/BellSouth DSL or Comcast. I chose DSL, since it’s up longer than the Comcast based on previous experience. Must be a local thing.

Thanks for the awesome software! I use all of them except for Inquisitor (I use Camino). Can’t wait to try NewsFire 2 and this updated version of Xtorrent.

I rarely “blog” anymore, but I will do it for a chance to test out the new NewsFire.

Quintin...

Fantastic product! Individual file selection… well, what can I say?

Sascha...

I’ve posted an article in my Blog. Xtorrent is great and I’m very excited to test NewsFire 2.

Michael...

Awesome. Looking forward to NewsFire 2!

I’ve blogged about xtorrent here.

Ronald...

Great release! Just want to mention I blogged about it as well: http://cavemonkey50.com/2007/08/xtorrent-11-released-with-selective-file-downloading/

David...

Here’s my blog. It’s quite inactive but NewsFire has become the first app that I launch when I start up, so getting a preview of the newest would be very neat.

Imperium74...

The best software for downloads ever!
Your work is amazing!!!

Thanks a lot!

Jon...

Blogged it. http://jonvsglen.blogspot.com/

Looking forward to NewsFire 2!

Mirko...

Looking good! :) The feature list is pretty sweet. Blogged here.

woody...

Seems good.. Had problems upgrading, which I emailed about.. Existing download locations weren’t identified by the update.

Anyway, I’d love to see the download progress of the individual files within the torrent. And I’m also unclear as to what that grid of squares is telling me with the green squares – Are those the blocks that are done? Or in-progress at the moment?

William...

I wrote about Xtorrent in my weblog: http://www.helloyourself.org/

=]

John...

Howdy,

I’ve used a few BitTorrent clients, and I’ve never really liked any of them that much, but in about 24 hours, I’ve fallen in love with Xtorrent. It’s wonderful, performs well, and is the first client I’ve used that felt like it was designed to be as Maclike as possible.

I’m not sure anyone actually reads my blog, but I’ve evangelized for Xtorrent here.

One question: Is there any way to see download progress on individual files? This is the only thing I really feel like I’m missing, but as I said in my post, it’s convenience more than anything else.

Also, just because I’m curious, how does the software define a “leech?”

Andy...

Blogged. And a pleasure to do so. As it is a pleasure to use your software.

I will stop the sucking up now.

Zach...

I can haz newsfire private beta? (here’s my quick post)

Rhuantavan...

Can’t wait to get home and try it! Good job!

qrayg...

Great software. Worth every penny. Thank you for your hard work on this and Acquisition.

Chuck...

Posted. Xtorrent is my fav bittorrent client. I’d love to beta test my favorite rss reader. Send a Newsfire 2 beta my way.

Far...

sweet update, keep up the great work!

any chance paid users of newsfire get to play with the new private beta?

Gaby...

Good Stuff, now…

When is Torrent Queing coming along ?

Keep it up.

Benjamin...

Okay, so you got me. I had been satisfied with my ignorance of Xtorrent, mostly because my PowerBook’s 60GB hard drive is near capacity already, but bribing me with the possibility a private beta of NewsFire convinced me to try it out. Not 5 minutes later I’m in love.

I don’t know what the requirements are for said invite, but I did post a little something about this release on my site. http://sorrytown.us/link/xtorrent-11-released

Project...

Jesus… dont know what you did but this version is downloading files MUCH faster than usual.

PBlack...

Xtorrent works fine. I am not using it very intelligently, tough, because I can’t find a manual. Is there one somewhere ?

Thanks.

Pemmax...

Blogged – http://mojmac.pl/2007/08/31/xtorrent-11-juz-dostepny/

Please add me for Newsfire private beta.

Best regards!

akuma1x...

I love this software! Excellent work. A feature I’d like to see in a future release is to have a day of the week selection for the global bandwidth limit.Say I want restrictions on bandwidth only on weekdays, but on the weekends, I want to turn the speed all the way up… That would be great. Again, a wonderful piece of software! Thanks!

MILE...

Very nice and welcome update, keep up the good work…! You can read my blog entry — even though it is in German, I hope that still counts…!? ;)

Miky...

i love you xtorrent :D

Mark...

This torrent app is by far the best I’ve used… and I’ve tried most of the Mac clients. It is, to use those immortal words, THE DOGS BOLLOCKS.

Sam...

Another great update, nice work David. I look forward to future updates and am very excited about trying out the NewsFire beta.

EkDor...

I demo’ed it for less than a day and had to have it. No other app even comes close to this fast, this reliable and usable. Solid as a rock so far, comparable design and stability to Apples own code and design.

I’m impressed Dave.
Smart app…

Marcel...

Very nice Software!

Ruurd...

Sorry for being blind. Individual files can be downloaded by just clicking the ‘get file’ button next to them. Now I’ve nothing more to wish. Great piece of software!

Daniel...

Will you have a way to remote interface with Xtorrent? I’ve always loved the Azureus remote widget to connect to my headless mac mini. That’s all that’s missing for me to switch :-)

Roland...

the best client torrent for mac osx!!

txema...

Hi,

i think Xtorrent is the best p2p however, lately i am having issues with it as I get “not responding” messages and the application gets frozen.

Moreover, I am finding that when i quit the program the music/movie i´ve downloaded has not been saved.
anyone that can help?
cheers,
Txema

Jamey...

Dave, love XTorrent. But for some reason I have to keep force-quitting it when it stops responding I just tried downloading a fresh copy, maybe that’ll help
Thanks,
–Jamey

Davis...

How to run this thing? Where do i have to past in the activation code? Could somebody explain?

Hugh...

Quick question. Do only certain torrents support the individual file feature? If not, how does one select individual files to download?

Dean...

Is a timestamp of finished downloads possible? when i have a dozen files downloading and one finishes, with a dozen more seeding, i would love to see which file was the last to download, instead of figuring it out by myself by going into finder and looking at last modified time. Another thing, upload times in the speed column for seeding torrents, because showing a blank for all seeds is useless, and actually selecting each one manually could be avoided easily.

great software, and looks beautiful.

luis...

Hi, your Xtorrent is excellent, but , i have a problem, its impossible to try downloading anything, he is all the times stopped.
It’s very annoying.
What can i do?

Thanks

Jake...

Hi, I’m a paid xtorrent user and I was wondering why it crashes upon completion of a download. Not every time, but very often. Seems to be random.

I’m using OS X 10.4.11

Thanks,
-JK

unnormal...

please please update xtorrent’s core so it can be unbanned from private torrent trackers like what?, waffles, etc. i would gladly pay for the better experience torrenting if only it actually worked on the best torrent trackers! the current state is a real shame!

Jason...

Does it require 10.4.11?
I just upgraded from xTorrent 1.0 and 1.1 keeps hanging. I’m running on intel 10.4.10 and can not upgrade the OS.

Please I need to download an older version of xTorrent (1.0)… 7Gb worth of almost finished donwloads are waiting!
